A Poetical Introduction
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
Julia Outlaw will introduce this event celebrating the magical season of Autumn with a few poems and pictures to set the mood.
Moving Naturally with Autumn Energy
with Anne Andenaes
“……As the ripened fruits of Nature are gathered, in readiness to supply us with energy as the sun lowers and the days shorten, we can look to Autumn as a time for providing a good, sound foundation for the winter phase of the annual cycle ahead…”
From Anne's book, “Naturally You” (Naturlig Vis, 2004).
Welcome to awakening and preparing your autumn energy and space within and around yourself. What signifies autumn energy to you? Do you feel a sense abundance in the autumn air and soil as you replenish your store for the season? How does it enhance you? Do you move differently in autumn? Maybe you notice your mind and body slowing down and withdrawing inwards as you step into autumn? We will take a little exploration together and discover our Autumn energy, focusing on our roots and foundation, just as in Nature.
Wear comfortable clothes for ease of movement and if possible, have a sign or symbol of autumn nearby which you find pleasing; an autumn leaf, nut, an autumn fruit, piece of wood or stone, fungi, a scent, an autumn colour or textile…..bring autumn close to you.
Autumn Nutrition, Herbs, Foraging
with Dr Eleni Tsiompanou and Dimitra Makarona
Autumn is characterised by an abundance of wild and cultivated produce, and an explosion of colours that can also be reflected on our plates. Foraging in Nature and harvesting in our gardens can provide us with ingredients that help us to transition to the coming winter and fortify our immune system. During this workshop we will present practical tips on foraging, cooking, eating and preserving foods for this particular time of the year and we will discuss herbs that can promote physical and mental well-being.
Slavic Traditions | Reflections | Journaling
Małgorzata Jabłońska
Historically, autumn was a time of reflection, recapitulation and summation of Summer work, and harvest - as well as a time of preparation for winter: do we have what we need to survive in good health? Golden windy days and falling leaves like pieces of paper signal the end of the outdoors physical labour of muscles and the beginning of the indoors labour of mind and spirit. Delving into the Dziady (Forefathers' Eve) ritual, one of the most important traditions of the Slavs related to the veneration of ancestors, we will also explore contemporary techniques of reflection by means of writing a journal.
A Song for Autumn
with Sara Khoroosi
The breathtaking beauty of autumn with its array of earthly tones of reds, golds and browns is reliably a feast for the eyes. Singing can enhance this sensory experience, just as the robin sings it’s autumn song, re-harmonising and re-balancing. Come and join us as we embrace this new season with a moment of song, breath and harmony.
